Memory allocation algorithm change for data archive task. It will reduce the total memory size occupied by the on-going data archive task and prevent FISC CDH from falling into the critical state due to "memory low". 2. No "empty folder/directory" will be created in the archive image or disc, and the archvie bit of the "folder/directory" will also be cleared if "clear archive bit of source file after archived" option is enabled. Bugs Fixed in This Release ------------------------------- 1. When a Video CD or Audio CD was restored back to the mirror (image) drive from the tape, FISC CDH would consider it was no longer a video or audio CD; the format of the original CD image would be changed unexpectedly. This problem is already fixed in this release. 2. When you backup data to OnStream ADR tape, the backup process would fail to complete while it wrote data onto the bad-block area of that tape. This problem is already fixed in this release. 3. The archive task would possibly fail ("integrity error" in log) if the name of the source files/folders contained a semicolon ";" character. This problem is already fixed in this release. 4. The NFS client failed to change the permission/property of files/folders of RAID-protected file volume using the native Unix commands "chmod" and "chown". This problem is already fixed in this release. 5. The archive task would be terminated unexpectedly ("abnormal error" in log) if the date/time information of source files are later than 1/1/2028. This problem is already fixed in this release. 6. The FISC CDH would fail to boot after the firmware was upgraded to v4.00. The Pioneer DVD-RW drive (DVR-A03) is now supported in this release. You can burn DVD-R and DVD-RW disc using this drive. The FISC CDH supports only DAO (Disc At Once) to burn the entire DVD to the writer, instead of using "packet writing" technology. The interoperability problem is also observed between DVD-RW disc and legacy DVD-ROM drives. It means that many of the DVD-ROM drives can't recognize the burned DVD-RW disc. Please refer to the following list, in which we have confirmed the following models can work with burned DVD-RW disc. * Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-A03 * Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-113 * Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-A03 Please contact with your DVD-ROM drive manufacturer to see whether your drive can work with new DVD-RW disc or not. 2. A new major function "Archive" is now available in this release. It is a new route for you to build your own CD/DVD image directly from the file volume without going through network in eConsole. Furthermore, you can also burn the archive image directly to CD or DVD writer for safely keeping your historical data. 3. The error handle routine toward RAID group device has been refined in this release. It will greatly improve the stability and availability of the RAID group device once the unexpected error has occurred. * "Degraded" state: it is exactly the same as the previous version of firmware. When one drive fails to respond during run-time or boot-time, the whole RAID group will fall into "degraded state". You can still access this RAID group but the data stored is not protected by RAID. In this state, we strongly recommend you to replace this defeated drive with a new one and recover it immediately in Device Manager. * "Faulty" state: a new state of RAID group is added to handle the error condition when two or more drives are defeated due to the "bad sectors" found during run-time. In this situation, the FISC CDH won't un-mount the whole RAID group; it means that users can still access this RAID group to copy as much data as possible for rescuing his data. When a RAID group falls into "faulty state", it can't be recovered via changing the defeated drives. * "Not available" state: this is mostly happened while two or more drives are missing from the RAID during boot-time. In this situation, the FISC CDH is not able to mount this RAID group for accessing. * "Not ready" state: it is a transition state while a RAID group is under checking during boot-time, or the old settings of RAID is just applied to the new FISC CDH. If it always keeps in "Not ready" state, it means the FISC CDH is not able to retrieve the existing settings of the RAID group and mount it successfully for being accessed. If you have configured your RAID group in the previous firmware version, we strongly recommend you to upgrade your FISC CDH's firmware to v4.00 for having more robust error handle ability toward your RAID group. 4. The more informative message relative to the RAID group is now added in Device Manager and Event Log pages. 5. The default string assigned for "server comments" has been changed from "FISC CDH" to blank. Bugs Fixed in This Release ------------------------------- 1. Some French strings shown in Device Manager were incorrect. This problem is already fixed in this release. 2. The NFS relative services of the FISC CDH would fail to start if the NFS client attempted to mount the share volume from the FISC CDH during boot-time. This problem is already fixed in this release. 3. The following error message would occur in NFS client: "Install NFS file handle". This problem was observed after CDH was rebooting and the NFS client still kept the previous connection to the physical share. This problem is already fixed in this release. 4. When two drives are located in the same IDE channel (master & slave) and configured in a RAID group, the FISC CDH would be possibly blocked by the slave device while reading/writing the bad sectors on it. Once it happened, this RAID group would be considered as "Not available" and un-mounted unexpectedly. This problem is already fixed in this release. 5. The FISC CDH would fail to boot if the certain brand of add-on memory DIMM modules were installed on it. This problem is already fixed in this release. 6. The NetWare logon user failed to access the FISC CDH's share volume with NetWare "group" permission assigned only. This problem is already fixed in this release. 7. The data stored in tape were possibly not able to be restored to the file volume or image drive of the FISC CDH. The restore task would be unexpectedly terminated due to the backup data containing "null" symbolic link. This problem is already fixed in this release. 8. If you were using eConsole to build a European naming CD image to the FISC CDH, the European volume name would be shown incorrect in File Explorer. This problem is already fixed in this release. 9. The "schedule mirror" and "schedule recording" would fail to start on August 29th, 30th, 31th in every years. This problem is already fixed in this release. 10. The CD image built from eConsole can not be emulated as a local CD-ROM drive in eMulateCD v2.00. This problem is already fixed in this release. Known Limitations --------------------- 1. The two-byte-naming (CJK) folders/files are possibly failed to be opened/deleted by NetWare client (running NCP over IPX). 2. The user/admin web pages of FISC CDH can not function properly when user is browsing FISC CDH using NetScape v6.x. 3. The following types of CD/DVD formats are not supported (mounted or mirrored) by FISC CDH. Please use "eConsole - Build Image" feature as a workaround to build CD/DVD images to FISC CDH remotely. * ISO 9660 level 3 * CD with protection algorithm applied like "Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia". 4. The following types of HFS relative CD formats are not supported by FISC CDH: * HFS+ * Multi-session HFS (only the first session can be mounted) 5. OnStream ADR tape drives and QIC-format tape drives cannot be attached to the same FISC CDH. 6. Some compatibility issues have been found while users were using Macintosh with "Mac X" operating system installed to access data from the FISC CDH. ================================================= How to uncompress the firmware image and upgrade: ================================================= 1. Download all four files (fw340.exe, fw340.r00, fw340.r01, fw340.r02) into a temporary directory. 2. Run fw340.exe. 3. A firmware image file named cdhfw340.bin will be generated in the directory. 4. Open an Internet browser and go to FISC CDH Administration Page. 5. Enter System Settings and click F/W Upgrade. 6. Click the "Browse" button. From the selection dialog box, select the firmware image file and click "Open" button. 7. Click "Upgrade" button on the F/W Upgrade page. In the FISC CDH internal file system, the "block size" of an "i-node" has been changed from 32 K Byte to 8 K Byte. The total number of files hold in a file volume can be increased by 4 times compared with the previous version of firmware. The newly created file volumes will use the new block size after the firmware is upgraded to v3.40. 2. An new web page, on which you can assign default access permission toward file share volume for NFS protocol, is now available in "Share Manager". 3. When a file share volume was mounted by a Macintosh, it showed its "volume source label" as its name. It became impossible to be renamed. Now it uses the share name of this file share volume as its name and can be renamed in web admin page. 4. In FISC CDH web admin page "Network Settings - Unix", there is a new option to assign Unix default owner and access permission to the new file/folder created by non-NFS client via file sharing protocols SMB, NCP, AFP, and FTP. The initial value of owner and access permission will be "0,0" (root, root) and "0 0 0". If you install FISC CDH mostly under Unix + Windows environment, we strongly recommend you to manually change the access permission from "0 0 0" to the others (like "6 0 0", "6 4 4") after firmware is upgraded. 5. New time-zone items, such as "GMT+9:30" etc., are now available. 6. In CD record function, the value set in "CD record speed" won't be changed until system administrator adjusts it manually. It means that the previous setting of CD record speed will be saved and applied to the next CD record task. 7. The notification level of RAID events have been changed from "warning" to "error" while the RAID group falls into "Degrade" or "Not available" state. 8. The CD/DVD images stored in the FISC CDH's image drive(s) now can be deleted using eConsole with correct "Mirror password". In order to activate this feature, the following two options located in the FISC CDH's web admin page should be enabled: * In "Server Settings - Others": "Permit deletion of mirrored images using e-Console and mirror password". After this option is enabled, the newly created CD/DVD images can be deleted in eConsole with correct "Mirror Password". * In "Share Manager - Share List or Volume List": "Permit deletion using e-Console and mirror password". You can turn on/off this option specifically to an individual CD/DVD image. 9. The user/group list retrieved from NT domain is now well sorted and shown in "Share Manager - Set Permission" page. 10. The volume information (such as "volume name", "volume label") is now stored in the file/image drive and can be restored back to the FISC CDH even if the controller has been changed. Caution: the security information along with each volume will be lost after the volume information is restored. 11. The following default values are changed in this release: * TCP/IP Settings: "Obtain IP address automatically - DHCP" is enabled. * CD mirror option: "Eject CD when mirror is completed" is enabled. * CD record option: the default CD record speed is set to "32x". Bugs Fixed in This Release -------------------------- 1. Some wording mistakes of web pages in Korean, French, and English were corrected in this release. 2. Few of the ISO 9660 data CDs, which contained data stored in the last sector before "lead-out" section, could not be mirrored to FISC CDH correctly. This problem is already fixed in this release. 3. When the NFS client was reading data stored in the file or image drive of the FISC CDH, some of the files would be missing when there were thousands of files stored in that directory. This problem is already fixed in this release. 4. When the existing mirrored image was burned to CD record able device according to the pre-defined schedule, the mirrored image would be deleted accidentally. This problem is already fixed in this release. 5. When the IDE tape drive (such as Segate Hornet series) was connected with certain CD/DVD-ROM drive onto the same IDE channel, the IDE tape drive would possibly fall into "disable" state. This problem is already fixed in this release. 6. When Windows client stored files to the FISC CDH, the date/time information of files was incorrect. It always showed "last modified time" as "last accessed time". This problem is already fixed in this release. 7. The "volume label" of CD/DVD title/image and file volume could not be shown correctly while the DOS command "DIR" was executed in Windows NT/2000. It always showed "?????" instead of correct volume label. This problem is already fixed in this release. 8. When the file stored in CD/DVD title/image and the name contained both small and capital letters, the FISC CDH could not well expose them to NFS clients. It would result to some CD applications (like "RedHat") could not be installed through network when the CD title/image was stored in the FISC CDH. This problem is already fixed in this release. 9. The HTTP daemon of the FISC CDH would stop unexpectedly while some illegal characters were assign to the "Domain/Workgroup name". This problem is already fixed in this release. 10. Using DOS command "dir *11.*" would fail to list files which met the file search condition. This problem is already fixed in this release. 11. NFS clients failed to "mount" volumes of the FISC CDH due to the negotiation problem toward port mapper service. It only happened on the specific Unix-based operating systems like "FreeBSD" and "Compaq/Digital Unix". This problem is already fixed in this release. Known Limitations ----------------- 1. Please read the following instructions carefully before you upgrade the firmware: 1. If you are upgrading the firmware from v2.xx to v3.20 One more upgrade step has to be taken, that is, you have to upgrade the firmware from v2.xx to v3.10 first; and then upgrade it from v3.10 to v3.20. 2. If you are upgrading the firmware from v3.00 to v3.20 You have to backup all the data stored in "RAID group file device" (if existing) first and release (un-group) the "RAID group file device" before you perform any upgrade procedure to v3.20. After this is done, please upgrade the firmware from v3.00 to v3.10; and then upgrade it again from v3.10 to v3.20. 3. If you are upgrading the firmware from v3.10 to v3.20 Normally, you can upgrade the firmware directly from v3.10 to v3.20. If it fails due to the existence of "RAID group file device" found in firmware v3.10, you have to backup all the data stored in "RAID group file device" and release (un-group) the "RAID group file device" before you upgrade the firmware to v3.20. 4. No matter your FISC CDH firmware is now in v2.xx, v3.00, or v3.10; the data stored in either "non-RAID file/mirror device" or "RAID group mirror device" will still be available after the firmware is upgraded to v3.20. It is not necessary for you to backup the data stored in these devices before the firmware upgrade. New Features or Specification Change in This Release ---------------------------------------------------- 1. The RAID features (level 0, 1, and 5) are now applicable to both "mirror device" and "file device". The RAID service will consume a certain percentage of system memory while it is creating and operating especially on RAID level 5. So, the FISC CDH will prompt you to have at least 64MB memory (32MB on board + 32MB add-on) when you try to create RAID level 5 group and initialize. To improve the performance of the FISC CDH when RAID group is engaged, adding add-on memory is also recommended. 2. The limitation of supporting single file volume size up to 64GB has been removed in this release. It means you can create a large single file volume when the size of file device (non-RAID drive or RAID group drives) exceeds 64GB. But for the FISC CDH being installed in Novell NetWare environment, a volume size less than and equal to 64GB is recommended because of the limitation arisen by NetWare Core Protocol (NCP). 3. In previous version of firmware, the mirrored images will be shown under the system share called "MIRROR" by default. Now, a mirrored image can be shared to the network automatically after being created. You can find this new option in "Device Manager - Device List - CDxx link - CD Mirror - Mirror Option - Share this volume after mirror is completed". 4. The "local group" of the FISC CDH now can be granted administration right (super user rights). 5. The share volume, user account shown in user home page and administration page will be automatically sorted. Bugs Fixed in This Release -------------------------- 1. 30 ~ 40 SMB clients connected to and installed software from the mirror image of the FISC CDH, some of them might be disconnected unexpectedly during installation. This problem is already fixed in this release. 2. The share/volume/folder/file names with Western European characters were not shown correctly in the user home page of the FISC CDH. This problem is already fixed in this release. 3. When the user was using Japanese web browser to view the administration page of the FISC CDH, the characters shown in some function buttons were missing. This problem is already fixed in this release. 4. Users failed to access the permitted shares via FTP protocol when NT domain security was enabled and only the NT global group was in the permission list. This problem is already fixed in this release. 5. Users failed to logon the FISC CDH via FTP protocol when NT domain security was enabled and NetBIOS over TCP/IP was the only protocol available for Windows Network. This problem is already fixed in this release. 6. The FISC CDH failed to override the owner attribute when a Solaris NFS client (privileged user) tried to save modified file. This problem is already fixed in this release. 7. Some Simple Chinese characters can not be assigned as server/workgroup/share/ volume/file names. This problem is already fixed in this release. Known Limitation ---------------- 1. The two-byte-naming (CJK) folders/files are possibly failed to be opened/deleted by NetWare client (running NCP over IPX). 2. The user/admin web pages of FISC CDH can not function properly when user is browsing FISC CDH using NetScape v6.x. ================================================= How to uncompress the firmware image and upgrade: ================================================= 1. Download all four files (fw310.exe, fw310.r00, fw310.r01, fw310.r02) into a temporary directory. 2. Run fw310.exe. 3. A firmware image file named cdhfw310.bin will be generated in the directory. 4. Open a Internet browser and go to FISC CDH Administration Page. 5. Enter System Settings and click F/W Upgrade. 6. Click the "Browse" button. From the selection dialog box, select the firmware image file and click "Open" button. 7. Click "Upgrade" button on the F/W Upgrade page. It then reads the image file into FISC CDH and upgrade the firmware. Note: Please be aware that after you upgrade the firmware to v3.0 or later, you cannot update the firmware back to v2.0 or earlier. =========================================== Release Note for IDE CD/DVD Mirror Server =========================================== Release Information ------------------- Products applied: ALLION FISC CDH NAS Server Release date: December 21, 2000 Release type: Maintenance release Firmware version: 3.10 File name: cdhfw310.bin File size: 4,718,666 bytes New Features or Specification Change in This Release ---------------------------------------------------- 1. The feature of initializing a RAID group as a "File Device" is disabled in this release. That is because it will probably cause system hung with only 32MB memory installed on FISC CDH if you create more than 4 or 5 partitions on this RAID group. In order to fix this problem, the future release of firmware might have a different structure for RAID groups as "File Devices". We will suggest something as follows: * If you are using F/W v2.00 now, you can upgrade firmware directly from v2.00 to v3.10. After that, you can establish your own RAID group and initialize it only as a "mirror device". And all of the CD/DVD images stored on it will take the advantage of data protection and expansion provided by RAID software. * If you are using F/W v3.00 now and a RAID group has been created as a "mirror device", you can simply upgrade firmware to v3.10 and it will not impact the data integrity of CD/DVD images stored in this RAID group mirror device. * If you are using F/W v3.00 now and a RAID group has been created as a "file device", the data stored in this RAID group file device can still be used and protected as normal after F/W upgraded to v3.10; but the following constraints will be observed: (a). You can not add more file partitions onto this RAID group file device (b). The data stored in this RAID group file device could not be recognized if you upgrade F/W to the future release version (later than v3.10). According to constraint (b), we strongly recommend you to migrate your data stored in the RAID group file device to a non-RAID file device and release this RAID group before or after you upgrade your firmware to v3.10. A new version of F/W, which supports RAID feature upon "file device", will be available soon. 2. Change the algorithm of building i-node table of HDD when it is initialized as a "mirror device". It will free more storage space after drive is initialized. Bugs Fixed in This Release -------------------------- 1. UNIX client can mount a file partition via NFS but can not modify any existing text files via using text editor (like "vi"). This problem is already fixed in this release. Known Limitation ---------------- 1. The share/file/folder names, consisting of Western European characters, are not supported in the user home page of FISC CDH. 2. The two-byte-naming (CJK) folders/files are possibly failed to be opened/deleted by NetWare client (running NCP over IPX). 3. The user/admin web pages of FISC CDH can not function properly when user is browsing FISC CDH using NetScape v6.x. 4. Using Digital UNIX NFS command failed to mount volume from FISC CDH. ================================================= How to uncompress the firmware image and upgrade: ================================================= 1. Download all four files (fw300.exe, fw300.r00, fw300.r01, fw300.r02) into a temporary directory. 2. Run fw300.exe. 3. A firmware image file named cdhfw300.bin will be generated in the directory. An error message "Remote Procedure Call (RPC) protocol error" would sometimes be prompted while you were using Windows 2000 to access data from FISC CDH. This problem is already fixed in this release. 7. An error message "Volume delete failed" would possibly prompted while you were deleting an existing volume from FISC CDH. It would only happen while FISC CDH was heavily accessed by many NetWare clients at the same time. This problem is already fixed in this release. 8. FISC CDH would fail to register onto Windows network if the server name (SMB) conflicted with another workgroup name registered by Windows hosts. This problem is already fixed in this release. 9. A Chinese phrase shown in "Share Manager - Share List - Set - Windows NT - No user" was displayed incorrectly; it was only happened if code page CP437 was selected. This problem is already fixed in this release. 10. FISC CDH would reject FTP users to re-type password if user did not provide correct password at the first time while logon. 3. The FISC CDH now supports FTP protocol. Users can use any FTP client programs to access the FISC CDH. Both share-level and user-level security are supported. Using share-level security, users should use the share name as the user name, the share password as the user password. Using user-level security, user authentication are done by referencing to the local user database or the PDC. 2. The FISC CDH now supports the tape backup. The basic unit for backup/restore is a volume. A tape can only hold one kind of volumes, either file volumes or mirror volumes. Only full backup is supported. 3. Add an option on the page of "Administration Page->Network Settings->Windows: Authenticated by PDC". If this option is not checked, only the local user database is used for user authentication under the user-level security. 4. Add a page for specifying the "Maximum Connections" to a share. This page is on "Administration Page->Share Manager->[Set button]->Maximum Connections". The feature is used for limiting the maximum concurrent connections to a selected network share. 5. Add an option: "Append server name to share name" on the page of "Administration Page ->Network Settings->Macintosh". If checked, the network folder that Mac creates on its Desktop when opening a FISC CDH share will have a name consisting of the server name and the share name. Otherwise, only the share name will appear. 6. Code pages, ISO8859-1 & CP1252-1, supported in firmware v1.10 are now changed to CP437 (DOS) and CP850 (DOS). Bugs Fixed in This Release -------------------------- 1. Windows client cannot reach FISC CDH on the network when it behaves itself as a "master browser" with SMB "user level security" option enabled. This problem is already fixed in this release. 2. When you map a share from CDH, the share name can be shown correctly on the map drive, such as "mirror on smbd8ff850e". But when you check the property of this map drive, it will only show the first letter of share name (such as "m") in the label field. This problem only happens when you are using NT to browse and map share from CDH; there is no problem observed on Windows 95/98 environment. This problem is already fixed in this release. 3. When you are using the following string: "123456789012345", as the SMB server name of FISC CDH, the name will be shown in Network Neighborhood but it will fail to be opened for data accessing. This problem is already fixed in this release. 4. The information of current connected Windows client shown in "Statistic - Windows Client" is sometimes incorrect. This problem is already fixed in this release. 5. When FISC CDH is configured to "User Level Security" mode for NT domain, the user/group list resided in NT PDC sometimes cannot be retrieved by FISC CDH. This problem is already fixed in this release 6. If NT BDC is registered as the primary master browser instead of PDC (NBT <1C> group name conflict), the following error message "can not resolve PDC" will be observed in Event Log while retrieving user list or performing user authentication. This is only happened in TCP/IP application instead of NetBEUI. This problem is already fixed in this release. 7. Two mounting points are unexpectedly observed on the same volume under CDROM share (HTTP user home page) after the mirroring task has been terminated. This problem is already fixed in this release. 8. FISC CDH failed to retrieve user/group list from Windows 2000 PDC (mixed mode). This problem is already fixed in this release. 9. The Western European characters cannot be assigned as Server/Workgroup/Share/Volume/User name of FISC CDH. This problem is already fixed in this release. 10. The NT global group, consisting of Western European characters, cannot be assigned into the permission list of share resource. The NT user belonged to this NT global group will fail to pass the permission check conducted by FISC CDH. This problem is already fixed in this release. 11. FISC CDH failed to retrieve user/group list from NT PDC if the SMB server name consisted of non-English characters (like Japanese, Chinese). This problem is already fixed in this release. 12. The user/group name, consisting of Japanese characters, cannot be displayed correctly in both "Share Manager - Set Permission" and "User Manager". This problem is already fixed in this release. 13. The Share/File/Folder cannot be display and opened successfully via using web browser if the following conditions sustained: (1) Share/File/Folder name consisted of two-byte code (like Japanese, Chinese) (2) the code pattern fell into the following categories: "xx5Bh", "xx5Dh", "5Bxxh", and "5Dxxh". This problem is already fixed in this release; but they are shown as "%xx%5B", "%xx%5D", "%5B%xx", and "%5D%xx". 14. The following error message would be possibly prompted "Volume name error !" if Japanese full or half characters were assigned as Share/Volume name. This problem is already fixed in this release. 15. The administration page "Network Settings - Windows" would become un-usable after 8 or more than 8 two-byte codes were assigned as server or workgroup/domain name of FISC CDH. This problem is already fixed in this release. 16. FISC CDH became un-reachable in MS Explorer if there were Japanese or Chinese characters (two-byte code) included in server or workgroup name string. This problem is already fixed in this release. Known Limitation ---------------- 1. The share/file/folder names, consisting of Western European characters, are not supported in the user home page of FISC CDH. 2. The Japanese-naming folders/files are possibly failed to be opened/deleted by NetWare client (running NCP over IPX). 3. The user/admin web pages of FISC CDH can not function properly when user is browsing FISC CDH using NetScape v6.x. Qualified tape drive -------------------- 1. HP Colorado 8GB (ATAPI interface) 2. Seagate TapeStor Travan 8GB (ATAPI interface) 3. Seagate TapeStor Travan 20GB (ATAPI interface) =========================================== Release Note for IDE CD/DVD Mirror Server =========================================== Release Information ------------------- Products applied: ALLION FISC CDH NAS Server Release date: August 18, 2000 Release type: Maintenance release Firmware version: 1.10 File name: cdhfw110.bin File size: 4,718,666 bytes New Features or Specification Change in This Release ---------------------------------------------------- 1. It allows for remote image creation using eConsole (a Windows-based application that is remote management/mirror/record software for FISC CDH). 2. The following Unicode codepages has been integrated in this release. Users can select between different codepages based on the language version of their OS platforms. * ISO-8859-1 (Latin 1) * CP1252 (Windows Latin 1) * Mac Roman * CP950 (Traditional Chinese Big5) * GB2312-80 (Simple Chinese GB) * CP932 (Japanese Shift JIS) * CP949 (Korean Unified Hangul) 3. In addition to being a CD recording device, CD-R and CD-R/W drive can be also configured as a normal CD-ROM drive for performing "direct access" or "CD mirror" tasks 4. Audio CD can be recorded to a CD-R or CD-R/W drive connected with FISC CDH. 5. The input fields for assigning an NT user account have been moved from "Network Settings - Windows" page (for logon to retrieve NT domain user/group list) to "Share Manager - Share List - Set (permission) - Windows NT" page. 6. The super user permission can be granted directly to "Local User" in "User Manager - Property of Local User" page. 7. The permission database of user level security applied to web accessing has been combined to the one used by Windows (SMB). If you want to configure user permission to "share" for web accessing, you have to visit "Share Manager - Share List - Set (permission) - Windows NT" page to complete. The previous user security permission database for web accessing will be erased automatically after upgrading firmware. Bugs Fixed in This Release -------------------------- 1. Using NFS command under IBM AIX (UNIX) to mount volumes from FISC CDH would fail. 2. FISC CDH cannot report "volume label" of CD/DVD cached/mirrored image correctly if "volume label as share name" option is enabled. 3. If the size of a cached/mirrored CD/DVD image exceeds 4GB, this image is possibly altered after "file system check" process during server rebooting. 4. If the capacity of a connected hard disk drive (initialized as "file drive") is larger then 50GB, the size of a newly created file partition cannot be allocated correctly. 5. FISC CDH would probably fail to retrieve user/group information from NT PDC while the protocol, NetBEUI or TCP/IP, is individually enabled. 6. FISC CDH cannot retrieve user/group information from NT PDC if there are more than 248 user accounts existing in the NT domain. 7. The Windows hosts would probably fail to logon FISC CDH for data accessing when the option of the "user level security for Windows" is enabled. 8. When the option of "user level security for web accessing" is enabled and an NT global group is added to the permission list of the specific share, an NT user belonged to this NT global group is not able to browse data from this share (authentication failed) via HTTP protocol (web browser). 9. An error message will be prompted when you try to change the Macintosh server name of FISC CDH on administration page. This problem only happened if there is no "zone" available on the Mac network. 10. The Windows hosts (non-English version) is not able to open files/folders, with non-English characters included, from FISC CDH. 11. When the TCP/IP settings of FISC CDH is configured to "Obtain an IP address automatically", user will not be able to change IP address directly from the LCD panel. 12. When the files are stored in the file volume of FISC CDH, the "archive bit" of the file attribute can not be changed. 13. Connect two CD-R drives to FISC CDH and start CD recording jobs on both drives simultaneously; one of the two recording jobs will never be started. =========================================== Release Note for IDE CD/DVD Mirror Server =========================================== Release Information ------------------- Products applied: ALLION FISC CDH NAS Server Release date: July 10, 2000 Release type: Maintenance release Firmware version: 1.03 File name: cdhfw103.bin File size: 4,718,666 bytes New Features in this Release ---------------------------- 1. CD-R and CD-R/W devices are now supported by FISC CDH. It means that system administrator is able to duplicate CD images from "mirror device" to CD recording device. Almost all of the mirrored CD images currently stored in FISC CDH can be recorded to CD recording device. The following options are available along with CD recording features: * Immediate and schedule recording * Batch recording - up to 6 mirrored images can be selected for recording * Configurable recording speed * Auto-eject after recording is completed * Option of erasing CD-R/W media before recording * Run-time recording progression/status report 2. Two options are now available in the new HTTP administration page: "Server Settings - Others": "Auto Apply Enable" and "CD Mounting Sequence". "Auto Apply Enable" option is basically applied to the situation for which the HDDs connected to FISC CDH have been changed. If this option is enabled, FISC CDH will recognize and present the newly attached HDDs automatically. "CD Mounting Sequence" option is mostly used especially for some special types of CD formats (such as "ISO+HFS" or "ISO+UDF") when they are inserted to the CD/DVD-ROM drives. 3. In HTTP administration page: "Network Settings - Web", an "External Link URL" function is now available for system administrator to define a specific URL link in FISC CDH user page. 4. In addition to default administration account of FISC CDH, local and remote user accounts are able to be granted "administration right" for configuring server using Web browser. It means multiple administrator accounts are possible. Problems Fixed in this Release ------------------------------ 1. FISC CDH failed to register onto WINS server if it was configured as a WINS client. 2. FISC CDH can not retrieve "user list" from NetWare 4.x bindery when "authenticated by bindery server" option of "Network Settings - NetWare" was enabled. 3. The following error message would appear when FISC CDH tried to retrieve "user/group list" from NT primary domain controller: "Cannot get list from PDC". This problem only happened when there are more than 100 users/groups belonging to this NT domain. 4. When a cached CD image was deleted manually, this CD-ROM drive (with "Delete image after CD is ejected" option enabled) would fail to cache CD image when a CD title was inserted. 5. FISC CDH could not lease "gateway IP address" from BOOTP server; and FISC CDH would fail to be accessed via all network protocols. 6. FISC CDH failed to lease "gateway IP address" from DHCP server. 7. FISC CDH would possibly become unstable when CD-ROM drives were connected without CD titles inserted. 8. If the configuration buttons were pressed during boot time, it was possible to cause FISC CDH hung sometimes. 9. FISC CDH would probably get hung when it was mirroring Video CD or DVD titles. 10. When UDMA-66 hard drive was connected to FISC CDH, the incorrect information: "UDMA Mode 2" would be reported in the following HTTP administration page "Device Manager - Device Information". 11. In HTTP administration page "Network Settings - Windows", all the changes in basic page would return to default values if the "Advanced" button was pressed. 12. Vertical scroll bar does not come out when windows size is smaller than the content of user page under Internet Explorer v4.5 for Mac. 13. The HFS CD title, which has a leading control code in volume label, can not be accessed by Web browser. This problem only happened when the naming of CD/DVD-ROM drive has been configured to "volume name". 14. All the volumes mounted by Macintosh were possibly disconnected unexpectedly when FISC CDH was performing "un-mount" process on CD/DVD-ROM drive. Limitations & Known Problems ---------------------------- 1. If users are using "Chinese/Japanese/Korean" characters as the folder/file name and store them in the file volume of FISC CDH, this operation would fail and the folder/file would not be able to be deleted successfully in Microsoft Explorer. 2. The following CD formats would possibly fail to be mirrored to the "Mirror Drive" of FISC CDH: Mixed-mode CD, CD-Extra, CD-Plus, and Photo CD. Additional Notes for CD Recording --------------------------------- In order to record CD title from mirrored CD images to recording device, the following recording behaviors are not suggested during CD recording process engaged: * CD recording device (CD-R/RW drive) can not be connected to the same IDE channel of a hard disk drive. * CD recording process will possibly fail if the following condition sustains: 1. Server is busy; for example, server is accessed heavily from network or another CD mirroring task is engaged. 2. Two CD recording tasks are engaged at the same time. 3. Server is performing CD mounting process when CD/DVD-ROM drive and CD recording device are connected to the same IDE channel. * When you encounter "recording fail" all the time, there might be the problem of the interoperability between CD recording device and CD-R/RW media. In this case, please use a recording media with better quality. * The following CD formats can be mirrored to "mirror device", but cannot be recorded to CD-R/RW media: "Audio CD" & "VCD" The following models of CD recording devices are supported by FISC CDH in this release: * Yamaha CRW8424E * SONY CRX140E * Panasonic (Matsushita) CW-7585B * Creative RW8433E * TEAC W54E * Acer 8432A * Ricoh 9060A =========================================== Release Note for IDE CD/DVD Mirror Server =========================================== Release Information ------------------- Products applied: ALLION FISC CDH NAS Server Release date: June 2, 2000 Release type: First release Firmware version: 1.00 File name: cdhfw100.bin File size: 4,718,666 bytes Features Supported in This Release ---------------------------------- 1.
